History
Ecumenical Commission for Human Development was founded in October 8th 2004 to focus on responding to disaster management in Pakistan. The first Lenten Appeal was held in the local churches to encouraged local religious community to raise funds for disaster relief and mitigation.
This Lenten appeal became known as Project Compassion and in 2005, the agency which coordinated this appeal became Ecumenical Commission for Human Development and began to focus more on poverty, disease and ignorance as well as human development and programs which built community self-reliance.
The role of development education is challenging the attitudes of local communities to become increasingly important, as the agency saw that money could only be a small part of any positive change. Significant resources were utilized in the community programs which drew attention to inequality, injustice and the Christian responsibility to take action in response to these issues.
