Who We Are

The Ecumenical Commission for Human Development (ECHD) is a faith-based, ecumenical development organization working across Pakistan to promote human dignity, justice, peace, and sustainable development. Inspired by the love of God manifested in Jesus Christ, we work alongside vulnerable and marginalized communities to address poverty, disease, injustice, inequality, and humanitarian challenges.

Since 2010, ECHD brings together churches, communities, civil society organizations, and development partners to empower people to claim their rights, strengthen their resilience, and become self-reliant. Our work connects faith with action, combining community development, humanitarian response, advocacy, leadership formation, and care for creation to contribute to a more just and compassionate society.

Our Mission in Action

ECHD turns faith into action by working alongside communities facing poverty, injustice, exclusion, and crisis. We empower children, youth, women, religious minorities, and other marginalized groups to strengthen their capacities, claim their rights, and shape their own future. Through ecumenical leadership, community development, humanitarian response, human rights advocacy, climate justice, education, health, and livelihood initiatives, we respond to both immediate needs and long-term challenges. We bring churches, communities, partners, and institutions together to promote dignity, justice, peace, resilience, and self-reliance. Our mission is visible where compassion inspires action and communities lead lasting transformation.

ECHD works across interconnected thematic areas that respond to the realities of vulnerable and marginalized communities in Pakistan.

Our work includes Ecumenical Leadership Formation; Prophetic Witness & Diakonia; Economic, Ecological & Gender Justice; Human Rights & Democracy; and Humanitarian Relief & Crisis Resilience.

Through these priorities, we strengthen leadership, promote Christian unity, defend human dignity, advance equality and participation, respond to humanitarian needs, and support communities affected by poverty, injustice, climate change, and crisis.

We connect faith with practical action, bringing churches, communities, partners, and institutions together to build peaceful, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.

ECHD’s featured programs and initiatives put our mission into action by responding to the needs and aspirations of vulnerable communities across Pakistan.

We empower young people through leadership, skills, apprenticeship, and livelihood opportunities; promote climate and economic justice; strengthen ecumenical cooperation; protect children and support family-based care; and advance humanitarian response and community resilience.

Our initiatives also engage churches and communities through advocacy, discipleship, dialogue, and campaigns for peace, gender justice, care for creation, and human dignity. Working with local and international partners, ECHD creates practical pathways for communities to become stronger, more inclusive, resilient, and self-reliant.

Our Impact

ECHD creates meaningful and lasting impact by placing people and communities at the centre of change. Since 2010, we reach vulnerable and marginalized communities through development, humanitarian, advocacy, and faith-based initiatives across Pakistan.

Our work strengthens youth leadership, supports women and girls, protects children, promotes human rights, responds to crises, and builds community resilience. We work with churches, faith leaders, civil society organizations, and local partners to amplify marginalized voices and encourage locally led solutions.
